Doug Shankman
Artistic Tutor: Dance
Doug Shankman is the artistic director of Contemporary Dance Arts, a company dedicated to creating new work for theater, film, and television.
Currently, Doug is working throughout the United States as director, choreographer, casting director and dance instructor. He studied acting at the Circle-in-the-Square Theater School and NYU.
Doug learned the art of creating dances by such great dance masters as Paul Taylor, Lee Theodore, and tap master, Brenda Bufalino.
Doug is a dance instructor at Broadway Dance in NYC. He also has choreographed most of the musicals presented by The Summer Theatre of New Canaan winning Connecticut’s Outstanding Choreographer Award from the Connecticut Critics Circle for WEST SIDE STORY. Summer Theatre shows include: PETER PAN, The MUSIC MAN, JOSEPH, GREASE (nominated by the CT Critics Circle for best choreographer), MY FAIR LADY, BIG RIVER, CAMELOT, CAROUSEL, SOUTH PACIFIC, HAIRSPRAY (also nominated by the CT Critics Circle for Outstanding Choreographer), LEGALLY BLONDE, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, KISS ME KATE and PIPPIN.
